Rocket Spanish Review – Can You Really Learn Spanish With Rocket Spanish ?

Rocket Spanish is a learn Spanish course created by Mauricio Evlampieff. It is one of the best value courses available at the moment. It has been a popular choice for people keen to learn Spanish for around 5 years. This article will give you an in depth Rocket Spanish review and explain why it is good value for money.

You access the course via the Rocket Spanish learning lounge. The learning lounge is basically the website where you can download parts of the course or start taking lessons online. There is also a forum where you can chat with other students or Spanish language experts, including the creator Mauricio.

You can choose to download parts of the course or do all the learning online. The main benefit of downloading the course is that you are free to use it whenever you want without needing to log onto the internet. You can download the audio lessons and the games.

Once you have downloaded the audio files they can be loaded to an mp3 player and played where and whenever the inspiration grabs you to learn Spanish. The games can be played on your computer and are compatible with PC and Mac computers.

The main benefit of taking the course online is that there is more feedback provided to the student which can serve to encourage and motivate the student.

If I was to sum up these two ways to use the course, I’d say the first method gives you more freedom and responsibility. The second method requires you to log in, which could be considered a limitation, but the teaching method is more structured and there is less responsibility on the student to motivate themselves. The online course does that for you.

Details of the Rocket Spanish course

There are three options when you enter the learning lounge. You can go to the course itself, a practice option or the community option.

The community option is the forum. This is moderately active. I noticed that one of the moderators was Mauricio (the creator) and that people ask questions regarding grammar and other issues that people have when learning Spanish. Mauricio or another moderator seem to respond to the questions promptly.

The practice option selects 40 random questions about Spanish that you have to answer. The questions are all multiple choice questions. These questions range from fill in the blanks in this sentence to listening to mp3 audios and then answering questions based on what you have just heard. You can submit the test for marking and get a score back in a few seconds.

In effect, this practice option helps you to practice comprehension (listening and reading), vocabulary and grammar skills. The random nature keeps it fairly fresh but you will get repeat questions if you use it a lot.

What is in the Rocket Spanish course

If you click the actual course option, you can select stage 1 and stage 2 of the course. The idea is to work you way through the course, starting at stage 1 through to stage 2. Stage 1 is Spanish basics. Stage 2 goes a bit deeper and adds more contextual and cultural aspects to your understanding of the language.

Stage 1 is broken down into individual lessons. For instance, the first lesson in stage 1 is entitled “meeting, greeting, food and drink”. It consists of 7 audio sub-lessons and 7 corresponding written sections that also have audio components to them. Each audio lasts for around 20-30 minutes.

See how does an individual Rocket Spanish lesson work….

In Stage 1 there are 4 main lessons and a certification test at the end. The certification test is a 100 question quiz based on all the lessons you have just taken. Again, it takes a multiple choice format. You need to get 80% of the questions correct to pass to the next stage.

Stage 2 works on the same principles as stage 1, however there are 5 main lessons that break down into smaller sub-lessons. Stage 2 also has a final certification test which you need to pass if you want to  complete the whole course.

Stage 2 also has a download section where you can download the 3 educational games. These games include mega-audio, mega-verb and mega-vocab. Again, these games are a fun way to learn some Spanish. They test your listening and comprehension abilities. Your ability to conjugate verbs. And basic vocabulary recognition.

Rocket Spanish is a good value course if you consider it’s price next to a few other self study courses. It covers a conversational range of Spanish. If you use the course properly, you should have a decent conversational understanding of Spanish. I understand conversational to mean conversing in day to day activities and social occasions. Nothing too heavy.

I’d suggest you won’t be able to have in depth conversations as your vocabulary and cultural understandings will need to be improved. The best way to do this is to talk to Spanish speaking people as often as possible and get a more cultural awareness of Spanish and South American culture. Getting this awareness will come as you talk to more people. Watching Spanish television, films and listening to music will also help. It does take time but it is worth the effort in the long run.
